It Said I Had To Do It Today

The word was somewhere near the top and your body was already moving.

Immediately. Today. Within twenty-four hours. Whichever one it was, you did not read it so much as receive it, and something in your chest went before your eyes had reached the end of the line.

And then you sat there with your heart going, holding a piece of glass, in your own front room, on an ordinary Tuesday.

That is what I want to talk about. Not whether the message was real. I have not seen it and I am not going to guess at it in front of you.

I want to talk about what happened in your body, because that is the part that has been bothering you since, and because nobody has ever explained it and it is entirely explainable.

Here is the plain fact, and it will change how the next one lands. That reaction was not produced by you. It was produced in you, on purpose, by a sentence built to produce it.

Urgency is not information. It is a lever, and it is the oldest one there is, and it works on everybody. It worked on you because you are a human being with a nervous system, and not because you are anxious, or old, or foolish.

He that believeth shall not make haste

There is a line about a foundation stone, and the last clause of it is one of the strangest promises in Scripture.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. (Isaiah 28:16, King James Version)

He that believeth shall not make haste.

That is not what you expect at the end of a sentence about a foundation. You expect shall not be moved, or shall not fall. What it says is shall not hurry.

You are given a promise whose whole content is permission to slow down, and no urgent word has ever once outranked a sure foundation. Isaiah 28:16 says he that believeth shall not make haste, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes that solid for somebody whose chest went before their eyes did.

Now think about why those two go together. Hurry is what a person does when everything is resting on them and the ground might move.

If the ground is not going to move, the hurry has nothing to feed on. Slowness is not a virtue in that sentence. It is a symptom of being on something solid.

You have been standing on a foundation the whole time your body was moving, and no ground under a person has ever once shifted because a message said today. The Holy Spirit is the one who steadies the ground under somebody's feet, and it is written that the not hurrying comes from the stone rather than from the person's own composure.

And notice what the stone is described as. A tried stone. Tested. Somebody has already put weight on it and it held.

You are not being asked to trust something untested while your heart is going.

You were never asked to trust an untested thing in a frightening moment, and no foundation in that verse has ever once been offered before it was tried. The Spirit of God is the one who stands on what has already held, and Scripture calls the stone tried before it asks anybody to rest on it.

Why hurry works

Now let me be concrete, because a general reassurance will not change what happens in a chest.

Urgency does one specific thing. It removes the gap between reading and acting.

In an ordinary moment, a person reads something, and then there is a small space, and in that space they think, and check, and remember something, and ask somebody. That space is where every good decision anybody has ever made was made.

A sentence with today in it is engineered to close that space. That is its entire function, and it is very good at it.

You are dealing with something designed to remove one specific thing, and no space between reading and acting has ever once closed on its own. The Spirit of God is the one who holds a gap open where something is trying to close it, and Isaiah 28:16 puts the not hurrying inside the promise itself.

And here is the part nobody has ever said out loud to you. Nothing legitimate has ever needed to be done inside an hour.

Not one thing. Not from anybody. Every real matter in the world can wait until tomorrow morning, and anybody who says otherwise has told you something important about themselves.

That is one rule and it is not a checklist. It does not ask you to spot anything or judge anything or become suspicious of anybody.

You have one rule that covers every message you will ever receive, and no single sentence of that kind has ever once required a person to become an expert. The written word puts the slowness in the promise, and the Holy Spirit is the one who lets one small rule stand where a list would only frighten somebody.

Decide it now, out loud

Now the small thing, and it is a decision made in advance.

I am not going to give you signs to look for. A list of signs would leave you examining everything for the rest of your life, and this site is not going to do that to anybody.

Decide out loud, today, that nothing gets acted on in the same hour it arrives.

You are able to make one decision in a calm room, and a rule decided in advance has never once had to be worked out in the moment. Isaiah 28:16 promises that the one who believes will not hurry, and the Holy Spirit is the one present when a person decides something before they need it.

And do it now, while nothing is happening. That is the whole reason for doing it today.

A rule decided in a quiet room on a Wednesday is available on the bad Tuesday. A rule you try to work out while your heart is going is not available at all, because the whole design of the moment is to prevent thinking.

Say it out loud, plainly. Nothing gets done in the hour it arrives.

You are putting a decision somewhere your heart cannot reach it, and one rule decided in advance has never once needed to be defended in the moment. The Spirit of God is the one who arranges a person's defenses on a calm day, and it is written that the stone was tried before anybody had to stand on it.
